Great expectations were from Adam Ondra, who despite his new "daddy duties" managed to collect two 2nd places at the World Cup, first in Villars in France in the difficulty climbing and then in the bouldering competition, which took place in June this year in Prague Letná.
From the sibling ace of the Potůček brothers, Šimon managed to win 3rd place in Žilina at the European Cup in the lead climbing this year.
And what about the vertical runner Honza Kříž from Brno? He took 4th place at the European Cup in Liebana in his discipline - speed climbing, to which he remains faithful. And that he has been devoting himself to it for some time now...
Another success was celebrated by Marek Jeliga. Marek won the “potato medal” and 4th place at the EP 2023 in Chambery in bouldering. Staying with bouldering for a while, Lukáš Mokroluský also took 4th place at the European Youth Cup in Soure, but then he was a bit more successful and won 2nd place at the EYC 2023 in bouldering in Graz, Austria. Lukáš Uherec is another competitive medallist and won 2nd place at the EYC 2023 in lead climbing in Niederwagen, Switzerland.
At the end of the men's list, we keep Honza Štípek. Honza was very active this year and collected everything he could! If we take it from the “lower” medal positions and divide it separately to bouldering and lead climbing, He took 4th place in bouldering at EYC 2023 in Kaunas, 2nd place at EYC in Soure and also 1st place at EYC 2023 in Graz. All these medal placements were topped off by winning 1st place at the 2023 European Youth Championships in Duisburg!
However, that was just the bouldering category. Honza competed also in “lead climbing”, where he managed to win 2nd place at the European Youth Cup in Imst, Austria and then added two more wonderful 1st places at the EYC in Niederwagen (Switzerland) and St. Pierre en Faucigny (France).
That's right. We proudly dress all the competitors of the Czech national sports climbing team!
What about women, girls and ladies? Let's not forget all these representative beauties!
We can start with Viktoria Konečná, who won a very nice 4th place in bouldering at the European Youth Cup 2023 in Soure and achieved this very great result. The other girls did well in the royal climbing discipline “lead”.
Among the long-standing representatives of the gentle gender is certainly Eliška Adamovská, who regularly ranks at the top of all Czech and International climbing competitions. Eliška won 2nd place at the World Cup in Briancon in lead climbing.
From other climbing girls, we must mention Tereza Širůčková, who won 3rd place in lead climbing and her bronze medal is also the first ever from the European Games in Krakow (Poland). Mariana Janošová also competed in lead climbing and placed very well with a wonderful 2nd place at the European Youth Cup 2023 in Niederwagen, Switzerland.
And what about Míša Smetanová or other excellent competitors from younger junior categories up to 20 years? Or even girls under 18 and 16? These girls are just getting better and better! They have plenty of fine-tuned climbing techniques and they are slowly getting stronger with right-chosen training. So we firmly believe that in the next seasons, they will also stand among the next top world climbing competitors and soon they will be able to grab valuable medal positions too...
Congratulations to all the men and women climbers and we are happy to be on this journey with you!
The athletes themselves stand behind their successes, of course, but it would certainly not be possible without a strong and supportive team that supervises them and takes care of them behind the scenes and everywhere else that the ordinary eye of the spectator can no longer see. The management of the Czech national team includes many quality professionals, without whom it would not be possible! This "support team" is an absolute necessity nowadays and finally, Czech climbers are receiving much-needed and important care! Among the coaches, we should mention at least Petr Klofáč, Saša Gavendová, David Migal or Štěpán Volf.
To ensure that the athletes have the best possible care, they are regularly tested for movement and sports. They cooperate with the renowned BALUO application centre, where they go for regular sports check-ups so that they can successfully excel in the national team for as long as possible. The representatives also work with certified experts from Andrle Sport or the famous Physio Gym Cooper, where they specialise most in posture correction, movement optimisation and injury prevention.
The preparation of the national team requires quality training facilities so that the athletes do not have to travel far abroad. Fortunately, there are now several great places in the Czech Republic where athletes may train properly. Would you like to meet them at one of these places?
In Brno, you can meet them most often at the climbing wall HUDY or in the bouldering gym HANGÁR. In Prague, they train in the multifunctional climbing wall JUNGLE. In Zlín, competitors use the Vertikon climbing centre and in Ostrava climbing walls: the Tendon Blok and the Tendon Hlubina.
And what about the cooperation with the RAFIKI brand? You can see our t-shirts and tank-tops as well as trousers and shorts or leggings, hoodies and jackets on competitors, whether they are warming up in qualification rounds, participating in World Cup and European Cups or taking part in the ruthless and combative competitions at the European Championship and World Championships in all disciplines of sports climbing – lead climbing, bouldering and speed climbing.
Finally, take a look at the complete list of the 2023 national team members in all categories - lead climbing, bouldering and speed climbing.
The competitors are divided into several basic categories. The oldest age groups can be found in the women's and men's categories. Slightly younger competitors are in the junior categories, which are the under-20 competitors, specifically the U20 female juniors and U20 male juniors. Then you'll see the youngest climbers in the youth categories, Girls U18 (under 18) and Girls U16 (under 16) as well as boys in both categories Boys U18 and Boys U16.
The Czech Republic's national sport climbing team is always determined based on the results from the nomination competitions in individual disciplines and also after fulfilling other criteria according to the nomination rules.
